The Tudor Submariner Reference 76100 holds a special place in Tudor history. Introduced around 1984, it replaced the 94110. Similar to the 16800 and 168000 Rolex Submariner references, the 76100 is a transitional reference produced for a very brief period.
Early 76100 references came with a “lollipop” hour hand. The initial 76100 models featured this design. Unfortunately, the “lollipop” hour hand was short-lived due to cracking issues in the large surface area of luminous material. It was subsequently replaced after a few months with the more familiar Mercedes hour hand, similar to a Rolex Submariner. The 76100 came with the “lollipop” hand and the Mercedes hour hand but never with the snowflake hands.
The 76100 was produced in both blue and black dials and exclusively existed with a date function. Triangular hour markers adorned the dial at 6, 9, and 12 o’clock positions. Early examples of the 76100 bore the inscription “T SWISS T,” while later ones, such as this one, displayed “T-SWISS-T” below the 6 o’clock marker and these ones came with the Mercedes hour hand.
Powering the 76100 was the Tudor Modified ETA movement 2824-2. As with its predecessors, it featured a Rolex-stamped case back engraved with the reference number “76100.” The watch was issued on the folded link 9315 Oyster bracelet.
This Tudor is a great original example, with a wonderful custard/yellow lume color—a testament to its vintage appeal. In summary, the Tudor Submariner 76100 is a Tudor collector’s ideal piece—a blend of history, rarity, and timeless design.
