Rolex collectors love a rare dial as always the devil is in the details. Linen dials particularly are sought after with watch enthusiasts for their unique texture and finish. This lesser known Shantung (also known as Mosaic amongst certains crowds) dial was another fabric-like option in the 1960s and 70s that Rolex lended their hand too. Rolex recently revisited a similar finishing to this with their 'brick' dials.
The Shantung name refers to the horizontal weave texture which shares similarities with Shantung silk that originated from China. This grey Oyster Perpetual Date was produced in 1972 and has pumpkin yellow tritium markers and hands. This watch also has the benefit of a beautiful engine turned bezel.
