The Rolex Submariner ref. 1680 “Red Sub” needs little introduction, but within this already legendary reference, dial variation is everything. This example features the highly sought-after Mark 6 dial, one of the final and most collectible executions of the Red Submariner.
The Mark 6 is immediately identified by its closed 6s in the depth rating and the rounded “S” in the red Submariner text, subtle details that separate true connoisseur pieces from the rest. These dials were produced for a relatively short period and represent the end of the Red Sub era before Rolex transitioned to white text.
What truly elevates this watch, however, is the immaculate condition of the dial. The matte black surface is exceptionally clean, and the original tritium lume plots have aged to a warm, even creamy tone, exactly what collectors hope to see. The matching tritium handset completes the picture beautifully.

A Word on Condition
The standout feature here is unquestionably the dial. It remains sharp, clean, and evenly aged, with exceptional tritium colour that gives the watch enormous presence on the wrist. This is the hardest part of any Red Sub to find right, and it is where the true value lies.
The bezel insert is a later Rolex service replacement, purchased directly from Rolex and supplied with paperwork. Importantly, it is a flat 4 insert, which remains correct in style and is often preferred for its clean typography and usability.
The bracelet is also a later solid-link Oyster bracelet. While not original to the watch, this has been fully taken into consideration in the pricing and brings a significant practical advantage. The solid construction makes the watch far more secure and comfortable for modern wear, allowing this Red Sub to be enjoyed rather than kept solely as a safe queen.
