This Rolex Explorer II Ref. 16570 from 1991 is a superb early example of the polar Explorer II — and one that features one of the most desirable early dial variants: the ‘Chicchi di Mais’ dial.
This rare configuration is instantly recognisable by its deep, almost grain-like tritium plots that resemble small kernels of corn. These plots age darker and more textured than later tritium production, giving the dial a warmth and richness that collectors actively seek out.
This example is wonderfully preserved, with a sharp 40 mm stainless-steel case, crisp steel bezel and original tritium handset. It is fitted to its original Rolex 78360 Oyster bracelet and retains strong proportions throughout.
