The simple Datejust has graced our website many times over, but this one has a twist. When it comes to popularity, the steel Oyster case and Jubilee bracelet combination is at the top of demand at Watts On Watches for its fantastic versatility. When paired with a silver pie-pan/step dial (argue amongst yourself for the correct term), the result is a Rolex for every occasion.

We love the 1603 Datejust because of its bezel. These engine turned bezels are only found on this 4 digit Datejust reference and gives a more sporty feel to the domed or fluted bezel you may see so often. Beyond the bezel, the overall look of this piece is most influenced by the rolled Jubilee bracelet. These early Jubilee examples feature a construction and resizing method using rolled or folded links and are a very unique feeling on the wrist. The feel wearing this Rolex is unmistakably vintage and extremely comfortable.

For our ‘Sigma’ audience out there, the dial on this 1603 also has "Sigma'' symbols at the bottom. (Impressive, very nice.) The Sigma dial has become more famous and sought-after for its appearance on a few Daytona references. These small Sigma symbols are associated with watches produced in the 1970s, to indicate that the hour markers and hands of a watch were made of gold – in this case, white gold. This Sigma designation can be seen in other timepieces around the same time, such as on the dial of a Patek Philippe Nautilus.

This watch also has the benefit of having received a Rolex official service in 2021 and comes complete with service paperwork and a Rolex Service pouch. During service Rolex have opted to replace the hands on this model however the dial, case, bracelet and movement has remained original.
