This Rolex Datejust Ref. 1601 is a highly attractive vintage example from 1969, featuring one of the more interesting dial configurations found within the classic Datejust family.
The watch is fitted with its original non lume dial and matching non lume hands. These dials were produced for markets where luminous material was not required, most notably the Japanese market, and they give the watch a very clean and refined appearance. Without lume plots interrupting the dial, the design feels sharper, more formal and slightly more unusual than the standard tritium Datejust dials of the same period.
The other standout detail is the non serif dial printing. The text has a cleaner, more modern appearance, without the small finishing strokes seen on serif fonts.
