The Rolex Oysterquartz is one of the most distinctive and underappreciated chapters in Rolex history.
Produced during the era when quartz technology was being taken seriously by the very best Swiss manufacturers, the Oysterquartz was not a shortcut. It was Rolex doing quartz properly. The case, bracelet and movement were all engineered with the same intent and quality expected from the brand, resulting in one of the most recognisable silhouettes Rolex has ever produced.
This Ref. 17013 from 1986 is particularly special because of its condition.
Presented in NOS condition, the watch retains the sharpness, finish and overall presence that these angular Oysterquartz cases are known for. The integrated case and bracelet design is all about geometry, brushed surfaces and crisp transitions, and this example preserves that beautifully.
The champagne dial works perfectly with the yellow gold fluted bezel and gold centre links, giving the watch a warm, classic Datejust feel while the case design keeps it unmistakably 1980s Rolex.
Inside sits the Rolex calibre 5035 quartz movement, an in-house Rolex calibre designed to meet the brand’s chronometer standards. It remains one of the finest and most over-engineered quartz movements of its era.

A Word on Condition
Condition is the defining feature of this watch.
The case remains exceptionally sharp, with strong brushing, crisp edges and excellent definition throughout. This matters more on an Oysterquartz than almost any other Datejust reference, as the design relies heavily on sharp angles and clean architectural lines.
The bracelet also presents superbly, retaining the integrated profile and crisp finishing that make these watches so distinctive.
As with every watch we sell, this piece has been fully inspected and professionally serviced where required to meet our exacting standards.
