With Piaget taking all the headlines recently by launching the Piaget 79, the world was surprised to be greeted with an astronomical price point of nearly £70,000. With Piaget being known for creating beautiful watches for over a century, this new launch really highlights the value that can be found in vintage watches, Piaget in particular. With this in mind, we had to bring to market a truly superb 70s Piaget with all the DNA of being a truly undervalued piece of horological history.
Piaget, being a true jewellery power house, decided to create a bespoke service on their watch designs during the 70s. They allowed customers to choose materials and stones for the case bracelet and dial. This lead to the creation of truly unique watches such as this.
This particluar dial is made from the stone ‘Tigers Eye’ which is part of the chalcedony mineral family. The Tiger Eye stone has been used by many watch brands throughout history, Rolex being a name that comes to mind. Tiger Eye Rolex models have soared in popularity over the last few years and now, pieces from the likes of Piaget, are beginning to follow suit. The dial is in incredible condition with no cracks. It seems more and more Piaget stones dials are being added to collections because of the limited supply of high quality examples such as this.
The case shape is 18k yellow gold cushion shape and the watch also appears to have no lugs when looking down onto it with the strap fitting into the lugs on the rear of the case.
This watch is fitted with the thin manual wind calibre 9p, which is regarded to be one of the best movements produced by Piaget. It also comes with its original 18k yellow gold buckle.
