Few watches have enjoyed such a remarkable connection to cinema as the Omega Seamaster Professional 300M. Introduced in 1993, the collection would become one of Omega's most recognisable designs, and just two years later, this very reference would make its big-screen debut on the wrist of Pierce Brosnan as James Bond in the 1995 film GoldenEye.

This 1993 Omega Seamaster Professional Ref. 2541.80.00 is an early example of that now iconic watch, dating from the first year of the collection.

What makes this particular example so appealing is its originality and the beautiful ageing of its tritium dial and hands.

The original blue wave-pattern dial is one of the defining features of the Seamaster Professional. Its textured surface creates an almost three-dimensional appearance, while the skeletonised sword hands, applied hour markers and distinctive orange-tipped seconds hand make the design immediately recognisable.

Over the past three decades, the original tritium hour markers and matching handset have developed a wonderful creamy patina. Against the deep blue dial, this warm ageing gives the watch a character that simply cannot be replicated by a modern example.

Surrounding the dial is the original blue rotating dive bezel, retaining the classic 60-minute scale and luminous triangle at 12 o'clock. Together with the distinctive scalloped bezel edge, it is a design that has become synonymous with Omega's modern diving watches.

The 41mm stainless steel case features the familiar twisted lugs, screw-down crown and manually operated helium escape valve positioned at 10 o'clock. These are all hallmarks of the Seamaster Professional design, combining its functional diving origins with the more refined appearance of a luxury sports watch.

Powering the watch is the Omega quartz calibre 1538, a reliable and accurate movement that was used in the original GoldenEye reference. While many collectors associate James Bond's Omega watches with the later automatic Seamaster, it was actually this quartz-powered version that began the relationship.

The stainless steel multi-link Seamaster bracelet completes the look, featuring the distinctive mixture of brushed and polished surfaces that became another recognisable feature of the early Bond watches.

For me, the appeal of these early Seamasters goes well beyond their cinematic association. The blue wave dial, proportions, bracelet and original tritium details create a watch that feels unmistakably 1990s, yet remains remarkably wearable today.

A Word on Condition

This Omega Seamaster Professional presents as a very attractive early example, with the kind of naturally developed patina that makes these first-generation tritium models so desirable.

The standout feature is undoubtedly the original blue wave-pattern dial.

The tritium hour markers have developed a wonderfully consistent creamy tone, complemented beautifully by the matching hands. This is exactly the sort of ageing I enjoy seeing on vintage and neo-vintage sports watches. It adds warmth and character while retaining the recognisable appearance of the original design.

The blue dial itself presents very well, with the wave pattern remaining crisp and the printed text clearly defined.

The original blue bezel remains attractive, retaining its strong colour with some light signs of wear consistent with the age of the watch.

The stainless steel case is well presented, showing some surface marks and signs of previous wear. The distinctive twisted lugs and crown guards remain clearly defined, while the steel bracelet and signed folding clasp display the expected light scratches from use.

There is something particularly charming about an early Seamaster that has been allowed to age naturally. Rather than looking artificially new, this example retains the character of a watch that is now more than three decades old.

Accessories / The Set

This Omega Seamaster Professional is accompanied by an Omega International Warranty card.

The card features the Omega branding and retailer details, adding an interesting piece of supporting documentation to this early example.

Although the original presentation box is not included, we place far greater importance on the condition, originality and overall integrity of a watch than on whether its original packaging has survived.

We do not believe in inflating prices with non-original extras, particularly when dealing with vintage and neo-vintage watches.

All purchases are supplied with bespoke Watts On Watches packaging and full purchase documentation.

Why Buy This Watch

There is a very good reason why the Omega Seamaster Professional 300M has become such a recognisable watch, and much of that story begins with this exact reference.

When Pierce Brosnan appeared as James Bond in GoldenEye in 1995, the Omega Seamaster Ref. 2541.80 became one of the most recognisable watches in cinema. It marked the beginning of a relationship between Omega and the James Bond franchise that would continue for decades.

For many enthusiasts, this is the original Bond Seamaster.

And while the cinematic connection is undoubtedly appealing, I think there is a lot more to appreciate here.

The first-generation Seamaster Professional has aged remarkably well as a design. The 41mm case remains comfortable and wearable, the blue wave dial is full of character, and the multi-link bracelet gives the watch an unmistakable identity.

I also think the quartz movement is part of the story rather than something to overlook. This is the movement used in the original GoldenEye watch, and for anyone looking to own the reference that started it all, that matters.

What makes this particular example even more attractive is its 1993 production year and original tritium dial.

Produced at the very beginning of the Seamaster Professional 300M's history, it predates the film that would make the model famous. The creamy tritium patina gives it a warmth and vintage character that later examples with more modern luminous materials simply do not possess.

For someone looking for a watch with genuine cultural significance, a great design and a connection to one of cinema's most famous characters, it is difficult not to appreciate the original Omega Seamaster GoldenEye.

A proper piece of 1990s Omega history, and one that remains every bit as enjoyable on the wrist today.
