A vintage chronograph that no one can hate. The Heuer Carrera is one of those iconic models that can fit within any watch collection. The Carrera was first released in 1963, the same year Rolex debuted the Daytona. Both models would use the same manufacturers for the dials (Singer) and movements (Valjoux).
In the early years, the Carrera was available with a silver dial or a black dial; 2447S, for silver, and 2447N for black. The example we have here today is of the silver variety, commonly referred to as an eggshell or albino dial and can be referred to as a second-execution variant – but what does that mean exactly? In the same way that car manufacturers update a model without totally reworking the chassis, the Carrera was given a facelift partway through the run. The earliest Carreras, or first-executions, have certain characteristics like all-polished, matchstick style hands, and unsigned crowns; later examples, or second-executions, feature polished steel hands with luminous inserts and strips of black on the applied metal hour indices. The second-execution models are actually more uncommon compared to earlier examples and sought-after by collectors as a result.
This Carrera is in overall great, crisp condition. The lume on the dial has all aged to a beautiful yellow tone, making the watch even more desirable. We paired this watch with a black leather strap to stick to the motorsport theme and heritage of the Carrera.
