The Tank for the sportier gentleman. Taking inspiration from the Jaeger Reverso, the original sports watch that flips over to protect the crystal, the Tank Basculante is a true hidden gem from the Cartier line up. Cartier and Jaeger have a close history, often been known to share movements and styles. Some believe the Reverso was inspired by the Tank where JLC took the style and put their own spin on it, literally. So it comes as no surprise to find out that Jaeger were some what involved in the design of this beautiful Cartier Basculante when the first Basculante was launched back in 1932, a year after the Reverso. Dare we say, Carter improved on the Reverso design with this piece? Using only a single track mechanism, the watch uses a swinging frame that sort of looks like a seesaw. This of course gave inspiration to the name with bascule meaning seesaw in French. Everyday is a school day.
This wonderful watch is in amazing original condition with very light signs of wear and presents a wonderful opportunity to own an iconic piece of Cartier history. With its crisp white dial and clear Roman numerals, this adds a sporty yet elegant watch to any collection.
