Here at Watts On Watches, we have covered the Cartier Tank many times. Usually this has been when discussing the “Must De Cartier” Tanks that we often sell. However, this particular Tank, is much more special. Introducing, The Cartier Tank Louis Paris. The Tank Louis has become one of the most iconic watch designs of all time, and has remained relatively the same over its long run of production. The Cartier Tank was originally designed in 1917 and its design was inspired by the Renault FT-17 tank used by the French Military in the First World War.
The Tank Louis was the watch of choice for the cultural higher classes throughout history, the most famous of which being Muhammed Ali, Princess Diana and of Andy Warhol who was actually quoted saying the iconic phrase "I don't wear a Tank watch to tell the time. In fact, I never wind it. I wear a Tank because it's the watch to wear.”
The Cartier Tank over the last few years has become one of the most desirable watches within the Cartier community and the vintage watch community as a whole, with the Tank Louis being one of the most desirable pieces on the market. To find one not only in this condition but with a wonderfully preserved Paris signed dial and case is a rare opportunity and we are very proud to offer this piece to our collectors.
The 18K yellow gold case is in good condition overall, featuring deep hallmarks and Paris factory markings throughout while showing very minimal signs of wear. The original white Roman numeral "Paris" dial is in truly remarkable condition with little to no spidering on the lacquered dial which is usually very common for this dial.
